Studious Beena’s Focus on Academics
Microfiction — A 100-word college romance
“A drabble is a short work of fiction of precisely one hundred words in length.” (Wikipedia definition). Please stay on the story for 30 seconds so your view counts as a read. Thanks much! 🌼
In school, Beena wore thick-lensed glasses and two well-oiled plaits.
In college, Beena wore saris and a single plait. My friends and I wore hep bell-bottom pants. We devoured paperback romances, and swooned over classroom crushes. Beena focused on academics.
Mr. Swaminathan taught our third year economics class. He was our youngest lecturer. He had round, dimpled cheeks and stood an inch shorter than Beena.
Beena — always studious — sat in the front row.
A year later, Mr. S. resigned his post. Beena missed college for two weeks. The duo were married in Mumbai and honeymooned in Kashmir.
I love reading the drabbles on Fiction Shorts, Nancy Oglesby’s fabulous pub. I was inspired to write a drabble by a prompt on FS. You might enjoy some fun microfiction by Robin MS and Mike Range:
