Some years back, my husband and I drove through small towns in Kansas and Oklahoma while on a road trip. It was very sad to see those towns with their shuttered factories and stores and a pervasive atmosphere of hopelessness. I agree that it’s important to know why people feel the way they do, even if we are on opposite sides of the political divide. Great piece.
