One of my mom’s favorite movies was “ Gaslight” featuring Ingrid Bergman and Charles Boyer. In the movie, the hero plays mind games with the heroine. The plot turns on the actual physical gaslight—hence the name. I could be wrong but I think that’s where the term originated.
It’s a film worth watching.
