I've watched Yakshagana being performed on stage. Watching it outdoors in the midst of paddy fields must be an amazing experience.

I didn't know there was an extempore aspect to YG. How fascinating and creative.

Sounds like YG is more folkish and not as tightly structured as Kathak, Bharat Natyam, or any of the other classical dance forms.
