I loved Arundhati Roy’s novel, The God of Small Things. I love novels by Indian writers set in India. They overwhelm me with nostalgia.

I don’t enjoy the Indian immigrant experience stories very much. I’m living that life already. And I don’t enjoy the Bollywood-and-arranged-marriage cliches.

I like reading stories set in other countries, or cultures, or bygone years. I’m reading Grisham’s “A Painted House.” Set in the 1950s, it describes the life (thus far into the book) of a cotton farmer. For me, this is something new and interesting.
